Jennifer L.M. Gunn spent 10 years in newspaper and magazine publishing before moving to public education. She is a curriculum designer, teaching coach, and educator at Hudson High School of Learning Technologies in New York City. At Hudson, she created Right to Read, a literacy acceleration program for adolescents, as well as the social justice learning programs — The Big Idea Project and We the Change. She is also cofounder of the annual EDxEDNYC Education Conference for teacher-led innovation.

Angelica discovered her inner teacher while working as a corporate lawyer in New York City. She volunteered for a pro-bono assignment with The Constitution Works organization where she served as a mentor and coach for high school students competing in moot court competitions. She saw a MTA subway advertisement for the New York City Teaching Fellows Program and almost two decades later she has served as a classroom teacher in both middle school and high school and team facilitator.
Shana Morris is a full-time high school Spanish teacher in rural Tennessee. She has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language and International Trade from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a Master’s degree from Virginia Tech in Hispanic Studies, and is currently working toward an Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She has studied abroad at the University of Guanajuato and the University of Xalapa, both in Mexico.
Dora Treanor is a Chemistry and Special Education teacher for Frank McCourt High School. Dora works with students in small group settings providing Special Education Teacher Support Services and in Integrated Co - teaching classes for mathematics and science. As a Special Education teacher, she is also developing and writing Individual Educational Plans for students in their senior years. Teaching in integrated classrooms provides an opportunity to approach all learners.
Emily Holder is a Physical Education and Dance teacher for Frank McCourt High School. She volunteers for and supervises her students in an internship for a therapeutic horseback riding program where they assist with lessons for autistic and disabled riders. Before working for the DOE, Emily taught dance and an active learning literacy program to schools throughout New York City.
Jennifer Stringer is a former classroom teacher, educational technology leader, and currently shares her work through professional development sessions for educators. She holds a Master's Degree in Educational Technology and Leadership and has presented at conferences like ISTE, TCEA, and NYSAIS. In 2012, she was nominated as a TCEA Educator of the Year and for the Kay L Bitter award for Excellence in Technology in Early Childhood.
Robert Andruskiewicz has proudly served a New York City mathematics teacher for more than a decade. He has been a member of Math for America throughout his career, starting his career by being awarded a teaching fellowship and later as a Master Teacher. Robert currently focuses his efforts on creating and sustaining positive learning environments and make sure curriculum is available to students of all levels of ability.
Melvin's first teaching experience was as a TA for a legal research and writing course in law school. But being an attorney wasn't challenging enough, so now he teaches math at Louis Pasteur Middle School in Little Neck, Queens. His experience as an attorney and now a teacher has taught him that learning and knowledge can serve as catalysts to social change. Melvin is a Math for America Fellow and alumnus of the Park City Mathematics Institute.
Lisa is an English teacher in Tennessee where she leads classrooms of diverse learners grades 9-12 to reach their full writing potential. She earned her B.S. degree in education from Austin Peay State University in 2009 and went on to earn her M.F.A. in creative writing from Murray State University in 2013.
Dr. Amy Fox teaches computer science and computer applications at Valhalla High School (VHS) in New York, and is a district Technology Integration Liaison. She is currently founder and president of the Computer Science Teachers' Association (CSTA) Lower Hudson Valley chapter and is an adjunct professor of computer science at Westchester Community College.
JoJo Farrell has spent the last 10 years working for the NYC public schools. Andrew Woodbridge has been a New York City Engineering and Computer Science Educator for the past 14 years. He has been recognized as a leader in project based learning by the National Academy Foundation, and YPLAN. His students have recently completed large scale work based learning projects with the Noguchi Museum (designing a ticketing and group sales database), the High Line (managing the irrigation and geolocation data), and Forest Park Trust (developing Android Apps for Forrest Park).

Khenpo Karma Tenkyong was sent to KTD in July 2014 by His Holiness the 17th Karmapa where he currently serves as a resident teacher and President. A native of Nepal, Khenpo Tenkyong became a monk at a young age and later undertook an eleven-year course of Buddhist studies at Karma Shri Nalanda Institute at Rumtek Monastery, earning a Shastri (B.A.), Acharya (M.A.) and Master’s Degree in Buddha’s Teaching in the Sutra Tradition. As a beginning teacher in the NYCDOE in 1997 Barnaby was introduced to and began applying secular, non-sectarian mindfulness practices to support own professional practice while teaching students in the women’s facility at Rikers Island. Successful outcomes and discoveries compelled him to dedicate himself to understanding the ways in which yoga and mindfulness programs might help students in the NYCDOE to help themselves in ways that support their social, emotional and academic learning.

Whitney Hollins is a special education teacher. She has experience working with students who have been classified as learning disabled, intellectually disabled, emotionally/behaviorally disabled and speech/language impaired. Hollins is also an adjunct instructor in the special education department at Hunter College, where she instructs graduate-level students. Jim Lerman's career has been devoted to social justice and enhanced life trajectories for low-income, urban students and the educators who work with them. Currently a retired JHS English Teacher, professional development and school improvement programs Jim has led have won numerous awards. Eileen worked for many years as an actress and teaching artist prior to becoming a New York City Teaching Fellow. She spent several years teaching both general education and students with disabilities with the intent of working toward closing the literacy achievement gap in New York City middle schools. In addition to teaching, Eileen took on many leadership roles in schools such as grade team leader and new teacher mentor.
Andy Mink is the Vice President for Education Programs at the National Humanities Center. Previously he served as the executive director of LEARN NC at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after working as director of outreach and education for the Virginia Center for Digital History and then the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. With all these organizations, he has designed and led professional development programs for K–12 and university educators.
Joshua Gottesmann is a tenth-year New York City Teaching Fellow, teaching special education at 751M in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan. Gottesmann grew up in Brooklyn and completed his schooling through the New York City public school system. Gottesmann joined the New York City Teaching Fellows program shortly after graduating from Baruch College where he earned a B.A. in history and earned his M.S. in education from Pace University through the NYCTF program.

John Whalen is the Restorative Practices (RP) Coordinator with the Binghamton City School District. He wrote the RP pilot program that introduced the district to the philosophy of Restorative Practices in 2015. Before that, he was a classroom teacher in the district for over 15 years, spending 12 of them teaching 6th grade mathematics at East Middle School. He is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo, University of New England, and Binghamton University.
Cristina Rade is a biologist and high school science teacher at Frank McCourt High School on the Upper West Side. Erna Hernandez has been working as a special education teacher in NYC for students with special needs for 15 years. She is currently teaching Technology to students with Autism and is the School Technology Coordinator. She is a strong proponent of using technology tools as a means to help her student not only build on academic skills but to improve upon creativity, social and communication skills.
Jennifer Foxe is a K-5 technology teacher at p255Q, a District 75 school for students with autism. A believer in lifelong learning, she has achieved certifications from Microsoft, Apple and Google among others through the NYC School Tech Partnership program. She is enthusiastic about evening the playing field for her students through the use of technology as an accessible educational tool.
I first started teaching 11 years ago as an NYC Teaching fellow. Since then, I've had the opportunity to teach many wonderful, diverse students in bilingual Spanish, Korean, and ICT classes at Francis Lewis High School. Part of the reason why I elected to do this presentation was because I wanted to bring awareness to the unique challenges that both teachers and students face in multicultural, urban schools.

Melda N. Yildiz is a global scholar, teacher educator, instructional designer, and author. Yildiz teaches in the School for Interdisciplinary Studies and Education at NYIT. Melda served as a Fulbright Scholar in Turkmenistan (2009) and Azerbaijan (2016) teaching and conducting research integrating media education in P16 classrooms. Yildiz co-authored, published, and presented on topics including media and information literacy, instructional technology, multicultural and global Education.
